AngelHonesty on IMDb — They might be dumb, but they sure are funny. I think what really makes the movie come to life, besides the superb acting performance of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, is that the jokes feel genuine and innocent instead of overdone and forced. In one way or another it is easy to relate to some of what the poor guys go through. As the movie goes on it gets better and better. Overall great performances and funny jokes.

Liam — Dumb and Dumber is a 1994 comedy movie directed by Peter Farrelly. The movie follows 2 imbecilic best friends Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) as they travel to Aspen, Colorado in order to return a suitcase full of money to Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly). Soon, the goal changes from returning the money to winning her affection. Dumb and Dumber is one of my all time favorite movies. It is one of the funniest and most charming movies you’ll ever see, and you won’t stop laughing from beginning to end. I watch Dumb and Dumber every couple of months, and it never gets any less funny. This should be a pretty short review, because it’s a comedy movie. Now, with all that out of the way, THE POSITIVES. The highest praise I can give this movie is pretty simple: It’s really funny! I can’t think of any joke in the movie that I didn’t find funny at all. Not every joke fully landed, but they never fell flat on their face. Even the potty humor is funny! Carrey and Daniels both give fantastic performances, and they feel like 2 idiotic friends, not really smart actors. If physical comedy isn’t your thing, then they might look so dumb (not in a funny way), but if you do love physical comedy, then they are so dumb (in a funny way). I probably quote “so you’re saying there’s a chance!” at least once a week. Even Mary Swanson has some great moments to shine. Now, there is one part of the movie I would put into THE MIXED. The story of Dumb and Dumber is not very good. It’s very dumb and makes no sense. It’s also super formulaic. But that doesn’t matter, because if you laugh, then I think the movie did its job. OVERALL THOUGHTS. Dumb and Dumber is a hilarious movie with excellent performances and writing that I would recommend to anyone.
